hey djchuang. thanks for your comments bro. Yes I guess I did find it weird that someone wanted to know who I was but they themselves posted anon. I guess I was a bit vague & did not understand what they were really getting at. What do they mean who am I. My profile is there for anyone to check out. Anyway, in answer to your Q, I haven't subscribed to any particular web community - emailing, chat rooms, blogs etc are all good ways to keep in touch and develop a sense of community. Bangkok & Diamond Dogs

Sorry I haven't posted for a while. Just returned from Bangkok for a consultancy with a local emerging church. I explored with them my ideas on emerged vs emerging church. Looks like the Diamond Dogs project is spreading it's tentacles further than I imagined. Also caught up with some of my old muso colleagues who are there recording their new CD. Love it guys! Can't wait for the release. Will post more thoughts on emerged church asap. Stay true to the one. Donovan

Emerging Church vs Emerged Church

Spent some time today looking through some of the so called emerging church blogs. There are some good people out there but on the whole it was a bit disappointing. Some of them seemed to be caught in a bit of a time warp. I think that from now on I will refer to stuff that we are doing as the emerged church. So how can the emerging church catch up with the emerged church. Here are Donovan the man's rules.

1) Pop Culture and celebrity culture.
Noticed lots of talk on the Emerging Church blogs regarding pop culture and celebrity etc, but i had to really ask how many of these people are actually having influence within celebrity culture. At least on this account we are miles ahead with our whole diamond dogs project.

2) Good bye Community
Seems like some of the bloggers are still persisting with the emerging church paradigm of starting communities. Hello! real time communities are a thing of the past. i know its hard but we need to embrace the virtual world. It also makes life a lot easier, you know what I am talking about hey pastors ;-) Real Time communities tie us down and limit options for teaching.

3) Vocation, Vocation, Vocation!
Had a bit of a heated discussion with an old school missionary on this one who was very big on the whole you have to be a practionors to be able to speak into the Emerging church. Come on dude that is so pre 21c. The three vocations for the emerged church missionary, is TRAVELLING, USING TECHNOLOGY, CREATING AND FINDING GOD IN COOL EXPERIENCES. Nuff Said!

4) Who do you go to?
There are a lot of missionaries spending time in traditional cultures with people who are poor, let em do it! The missionary of the 21st century will spend their time with the people who are creating the new global culture, whatever you wanna call em, cultural creatives, the new global elite, even just the cool people, these are the people who are setting the temperature world wide!

I Have food poisoning. That is part of the problem of Art events in Shanghai, the food is not always great, even when the art is hot. Spent the night in at the hotel reading Manny Escobar's work on Postmodernism and Hyper Feminism. For those of you have been lucky enough to get their hands on Manny's unpublished work, it is the best explanation of what is going on with Hyper Feminism at the moment, for a Coffee farmer he has a great grip on post-structuralism.

Later on Pat Chou dropped by with her new baby, she is pioneering a new emerging church cafe/ art space in Kowloon called " One dirty little secret". For those in the area drop by and check out her installation piece on Ehud from the O.T. Fantastic stuff!

Hi to all of you in cyberspace

Hi to all my peeps out there,

Well I finally did it, i got a blog. A lot of you out there have been bugging me to get online and let the people see what I am up to. Well who am I? I am 32 I am pretty much a third Culture kid with Dual American and Jamaican citizenship. I was born in London, educated in the Caribbean, and fell in love with my wife in Thailand.

I spend most of my time living in between London, Shanghai and New York although I have a great 50’s concept pad in West Hollywood. I also spend a lot of time following my wife Leticia Hernandez (25). Leticia is a model and invests most of her time working in South America and Miami.

I more have projects than jobs, I currently divide my time between movie producing, art, consulting with non-western churches about the emerging church, creating creative worship experiences and teaching Yoga. I used to be in the music biz and have a lot of friends there in bands I guess this blog is for them! I am the facilitator for the global diamond dogs project and also ephemeral missions. Big Shout outs to all ministry buddies, Kazu in Tokyo, Sunday in Lagos and Jamelia de Los Santos in Rio, and the Mega City Breakers in Caracas. Stay true. And keep on Surfing with the one! Peace Out!
